About Smart TV Comparisons
Smart TV Comparisons was built by David King — created to be the honest, data-driven TV comparison resource he wished existed when he first started looking for the right television.

About the Founder
I built Smart TV Comparisons to create the detailed, unbiased TV comparison resource I wished existed. With a background in aerospace manufacturing management at Rolls-Royce — overseeing the build and assembly of complete jet engine sections for Airbus and Boeing aircraft — I apply that same demand for rigorous analysis and high standards to evaluating picture quality, smart features, and real-world viewing performance.
Why Smart TV Comparisons Exists
Smart TV Comparisons is an independent review site dedicated to a single product category: televisions. The site covers 57 TVs across 5 categories — from budget LED panels under $300 to flagship OLEDs and the latest Mini-LED displays with thousands of dimming zones.
The site launched after identifying a gap in the market: there was no single resource that compared every major TV option side by side with honest analysis. Plenty of sites rank products by affiliate payout. Smart TV Comparisons ranks them by which ones actually deliver the best picture, features, and value for how you watch.
Smart TV Comparisons is not a TV manufacturer or retailer. No free products are received from brands. Every product in the catalog is evaluated on its own merits, and every review includes real pros and real cons. The brand paying the highest commission does not get the top spot — the product earning it does.
How Every TV Is Researched
Each product review on Smart TV Comparisons follows a multi-source research process:
Step 1: Specification analysis. Research starts with the TV's full specification sheet — panel type, resolution, refresh rate, HDR format support, dimming zones, peak brightness, HDMI port count, and smart platform. Manufacturer claims are noted and cross-referenced with independent measurements where available.
Step 2: Customer feedback synthesis. The most helpful positive and critical Amazon reviews are read to identify recurring themes. A single 5-star review saying "great TV" tells nothing. But when dozens of reviewers mention the same backlight bleed issue or praise the same gaming performance, that is a real signal that gets documented. Amazon feedback is cross-referenced with Reddit threads, AV forums, and home theater communities to validate patterns.
Step 3: Expert cross-referencing. Independent expert reviews from RTINGS, Tom's Guide, and other display-focused publications are consulted. When multiple independent sources agree on a TV's strengths or weaknesses, that signal carries weight.
Step 4: Category comparison. Every TV is evaluated against every other TV in the same category. Specs, price per inch, user satisfaction, and real-world performance are compared side by side before assigning rankings. A budget TV rated "best" must beat every other budget TV on the criteria that matter — not just beat a cherry-picked comparison.
What is not claimed. The analysis is based on deep research across multiple sources, not hands-on laboratory testing with calibration equipment. What there is: a rigorous process that synthesizes thousands of real user experiences into honest, specific, actionable recommendations.
Editorial Independence
Smart TV Comparisons earns revenue through the Amazon Associates program. When you click an affiliate link on this site and make a purchase, a small commission may be earned at no extra cost to you. This commission funds research and keeps the site running.
Every product in the catalog pays the same commission rate. The same percentage is earned whether you buy a budget Insignia or a premium LG OLED. That removes the incentive to steer you toward expensive products. The job is to help you find the right TV for your room, your budget, and how you actually watch — not the most expensive one.
Every review includes honest cons. Every comparison has a balanced verdict where each product wins categories. Fake urgency, fake scarcity, or countdown timers are never used. If a product has problems, it gets said. That honesty is what makes the recommendations meaningful.
Standards
- Every review must have real cons. A review without weaknesses is an advertisement, not a review. At least three genuine downsides are found for every product.
- No hardcoded prices. Amazon prices change daily. Links to Amazon for current pricing are provided instead of printing numbers that go stale within a week.
- No fake urgency. You will never be told a deal is "ending soon" or that stock is "running low." Those claims are manipulative and often false.
- Specs are verifiable. Every specification cited (panel type, refresh rate, HDR formats) comes from the manufacturer's own listing or packaging.
- Regular updates. Product availability, ratings, and review counts shift over time. Content is revisited and refreshed to keep recommendations current.
What Smart TV Comparisons Covers
Beyond individual product reviews, Smart TV Comparisons publishes:
- Category roundups — ranking every TV within its category by performance, value, and use case
- Head-to-head comparisons — detailed side-by-side breakdowns of TVs that buyers commonly debate
- Activity guides — use-case-specific recommendations covering gaming, sports, movies, bright rooms, and more
- A knowledge base — reference articles explaining how TV technologies work, what HDMI 2.1 means, burn-in risks, and more
- A buying guide — a decision-tree walkthrough for buyers who are new to TV shopping
The goal: no matter what room you are setting up or what question you have about TVs, you find a specific, honest answer here — not a generic paragraph stuffed with keywords.
